Maggie’s Cancer Centre in Swansea will be encouraging shoppers to ‘pull up a pew and pour yourself a brew’ for its annual ‘Maggie’s Kitchen Table Day’ fundraiser, as it hopes to raise more than £4,000 when it takes places at the end of April.
Volunteers from this vital support network, will be visiting Quadrant Shopping Centre this Friday – 13 April – to encourage members of the general public to get together around their kitchen table and what do they need to do? Whether it’s at home with family, at work with colleagues, or a community space with friends, it’s a chance to bring people together to eat, drink and fundraise.
Lisa Hartley, Quadrant Shopping Centre manager, said: “Maggie’s is such a vital service here in Swansea and its kitchen table day is such an inspiring concept that we are thrilled we can support the charity in this way. Our customers are incredibly supportive of local initiatives and I’m sure the team will have great success in stirring up interest among the community in hosting their own fundraiser.”
Maggie’s offers a programme of support which strengthens the physical and emotional wellbeing of those with cancer. It provides a space where people can meet others, or to simply sit quietly with a cup of tea.
There are 20 centres around the country and in each, there is a dedicated kitchen table located in the reception area. The concept is to provide somewhere for visitors to be in a relaxing environment and share their stories. This has proved a huge success and subsequently the ‘kitchen table day’ initiative was born, with the first event taking place last year.
Lucia Osmond of Maggie’s, said: “We are excited to be at Quadrant Shopping Centre on Friday to raise awareness about Maggie’s Cancer Centre and how the charity supports anyone affected by cancer, as well as promoting our Kitchen Table Day fundraising initiative. We hope to chat to many shoppers so we can spread the word about how Maggie’s work helps people with cancer and their friends and family.”
Maggie’s will be at Quadrant Shopping Centre on Friday 13 April from 10am until 3pm.
